Hello everybody! I got back from my quilt retreat yesterday. I had a blast! I actually feel like I got something accomplished too. On Friday we went to a great small quilt shop in Minneola, TX. She had great prices on her fabric and I was able to get my border fabric for my Drunkard's path quilt. I was originally going to use it for my binding, but after a group discussion, I went a totally different way and this is what we came up with. I really like it. I showed it to my husband and he told me I needed to keep this one. LOL. It's hard to tell in the picture but it has tiny red and yellow fruit on it. I am in love with it! Read about how I got these blocks here: http://missyscakesandaprons.blogspot.com/2013/07/drunkards-path-blocks.html I did not make all of those curved seams, my friend Pat did. I just finished it after she gave me her her blocks.
Here is my other finish. I'm not sure if you can see the border fabric very well, but it looks like the side of a red barn! Margaret was nice enough to show me how to figure out how to make sure I had enough material for my borders. I'll have to do it a couple of more times before I will feel confident enough to share it.
I learned so much from this quilt! You can go here to see my progress on my quilt. http://missyscakesandaprons.blogspot.com/search/label/Barn%20QuiltHere is a list of all of the tutorials from Lori Holt at Bee in My Bonnet. http://www.flickr.com/groups/2183559@N21/rules/ It has every tutorial listed and you will be able to see all of the blocks people have made using her tutorials.
I have to fold these tops up and will not be able to quilt them until after I move, but at least they are finished tops! I also quilted my great granny square quilt all weekend, I'll need to finish it this week.
I have a lot more pictures to share with you from this weekend, I'll do that in another post!
I am going to extend my book giveaway through 9pm tomorrow night (Tuesday, Sept. 24), since I have been out of town and not reminded anyone. So go enter for your chance to win, now! http://missyscakesandaprons.blogspot.com/2013/09/unlimited-by-davis-bunn-book-review.html
Have a blessed day!

Luke 12:24 "Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feedeth them: how much more are ye better than the fowls?"
Both quilts turned out beautifully.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful Drunkard's Path! If I'm not mistaken, that arrangement is called "Devil's Puzzle," although I'd have to look it up. Good luck with the move.
ReplyDeleteWhat's so great about the blue fabric for the border is that it repeats the diagonal of the layout of the blocks (among other things). I don't think you could have made a better choice!
ReplyDeleteReally nice, I love how the barns came out, I wasn't sure how they would look when laid out. I have a quilt yardage calculator that my daughter gave me for Christmas a year or so ago. It's very helpful for all sorts of calculations.
ReplyDeleteYour quilts are gorgeous! The fabrics in the drunkards path quilt is so pretty and the house quilt looks fabulous with the color combo.
ReplyDeleteWow Missy!! You accomplished so much. The border fabrics look great. Isn't it nice to get others opinions and ideas before finishing? Sure missed being with all of you. Idaho was lovely though! Can't wait to see more pictures from the Cranky Treadler retreat.
ReplyDeleteLove the border on the drunkard's path and the red inner boarder really makes it pop. The Barn Red border on the barn quilt is wonderful too. Great job!
ReplyDeleteMissy- Love BOTH of these quilts.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun getting away for a retreat and a little fabric therapy.
Love all your borders........the drunkards path made with the white is really beautiful.
ReplyDeleteAll so beautiful! I am glad you had such a great time. =)
ReplyDeleteOh Missy! I am sew proud of you! The drunkard's path block is wonderful. And the barn quilt.... GORGEOUS! I love it! Being a farmer's wife myself, I really admire that you kept all your barns the traditional red. Congratulations on both quilt tops!
