I couldn't find a place to spread out my hexies to take a picture, so I pinned them on the wall in my
sewing room er, dining room. I thought I had sewn them in a straight line, but that does not look very straight to me. My question is this, I thought I was going to be able to make a straight line for each row, but after looking at this and other Grandmother flower garden quilts, I don't think that is going to happen. Should I just sew the other flowers on the best I can (I put the garden trail on every other flower already) and pretend like it is supposed to be wonky? I really need a good tutorial for this step of the process because I have no idea what I am doing.
Sorry about the post it notes still pinned on the flowers, but I did n't want to forget which row this one is.
Thanks for your help!

Missy, I can't tell for sure, but should your green flower come down one more hexie, so it's solidly between the other two, like the blue one on the far right? I think, perhaps, the problem with stitching the garden trail all the way around every other flower already, is that after the first row, they only need a partial part of the garden trail sewn onto them (because they'll get the top part from the above row -- does that make sense?) unless you are planning on filling the space with something different. Do you have EQ? It helps to pull it up in the software and break it down that way. How long/wide will you piece be? It's really lovely, so far. Your prints are gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteI was going to say the same thing as Denise. The purple and blue flowers look like they're straight, it's just the green one that's weird. If you rip it apart from the purple and red ones and re-sew I bet they'll be straight.
ReplyDeleteI have never made a hexie project before so I am no help at all. I have not idea how those pieces would go together! Maybe YouTube has some good videos?
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking up to Slow Sunday Stitching!
I'm afraid that sewing the garden trail on every other block was the wrong move. You don't get an alternating block pattern with a flower garden, so it won't work out.
ReplyDeleteMyself, I'd have to unsew the green block from both it's sides and adjust it down to where it belongs. If you leave it wonky like this, you are going to have to put wide patches in your path, to fill those holes below the green block. That might not be a bad thing if you like the asymmetric look - but you'll end up with a path of varying widths, and you'll need some loose black hexies to fill the spaces as you go.
As usual I am late to comment and it seems that everyone has already said that the green flower will need to come down. I think once that is righted there will be ways to work with the gardens that already have the outer row on them. I can doodle some ideas in EQ if you don't have it...
