Decisions

I have been trying to decide what sashing to use on the cake blocks I got from the Sew Sweet Bee.  I believe I have decided on the pink.  I'll leave it up for a while to make sure.  I have two blocks I need to make and am waiting for one to be sent to me.  The vintage sheet I'll be using for the back, I'm actually wearing it as a toga right now.  We are studying ancient Greece in History and today is our big test.

The red block above was paper pieced.  I have never done any paper piecing and had to ask how to take the paper off.  My neighbor suggested to mist the small pieces and to use tweezers.
On Instagram, I won a giveaway from Catching Stitches.

I made a block for my sampler quilt.  I have been making a second block of some of the Sew Sweet Bee blocks I have been sending to other people.  These pieces have been sitting on my sewing machine, waiting to be sewn together.  I changed the orientation of the outer blocks.  This would make a nice quilt.
I sent the block below to the queen bee this month.
I got a magnet to use as a seam guide.  It is not strong enough to stay in place though.
I had a tooth pulled last week.  What better thing to do when you feel awful, but to color?  Coloring is a great relaxer after work when you don't want to think.
That is what I have been up to lately.  If you would like to follow me on Instagram, you can find me as redheaded_cat_lady.
I hope you have been keeping busy!

  1. I got an adapter for my back clamp machine, for when I want to use my 1/4" foot. I never have liked using seam guides. I tend to use my back clamp machines for things that don't require a 1/4" seam (paper piecing, Triangulations for HST's....). I'm using my 66 Lotus now for HST's.

  2. I actually use the vintage seam guide that screws into the bed. I find it helpful and use it for all my 1/4" seams. Nice cakes!

  3. Love those blocks. I have a 1/8"-1/4" that comes with my vintage sewing machine and use that for my piecing. I haven't used a seam guide because I'm always afraid I didn't line it up right to start with.

  4. I have a couple of coloring books too! I brought them to my mom's when we visited, bringing our granddaughter with us too. She loved sitting on the deck or in the middle of the floor coloring her pictures.

  5. Your cakes look delicious, Missy! They will make a beautiful quilt.

I have a magnetic seam guide, too, which also is not strong enough to stay in place. I have a Singer 201 and I'm wondering if there is a seam guide (the screw-in kind) in my mother's box of attachments for the machine. I'll have to go look.

  7. Those cake blocks are so pretty! Funny that you wore your quilt backing as a toga first. :) I will look for you on instagram.

  8. Love all your blocks! I tend to get stuck on yellow for a background or sashing colour for some reason. The next time you try paper-piecing I recommend you use Ricky Tims Stable Stuff instead of paper. You can run it through your printer so you don't have to draw off the design and then just leave it in your project. You'll never even know it's there. Saves so much time and energy.

  9. I use Bonnie Hunter's seam guide idea: http://quiltville.blogspot.com/2016/01/sadie-snow-and-all-day-sew.html

    You've been very busy!
