Sewing Day

We had a sewing day Thursday!  It was a lot of fun!  We have our Facebook group for the Missouri TOGA (Treadle-O Gathering Academy).  The TOGA is the weekend after Father's Day every year, but I thought it would be nice for the Ozark Treadlers (our new name for the locals) to meet every other month for a sew day and to work on individual projects and things for the TOGA every year.
We had our first sew day on Thursday at the Ava Art Guild who graciously allowed us to use their building for free.

Don's machine, a toy chain stitch machine that sews

See the perfect chainstitch it makes?
I love sewing days!  Once school starts we will have to start meeting on Fridays since my school has classes Monday through Thursday.  I don't think I have mentioned on here that I will be teaching at Whetstone Christian Academy this year.  I will be teaching kindergarten and first grade.

Do you prefer sewing with friends or by yourself?

TOGA quilts

I have been blogging about the Missouri TOGA.  Today I wanted to share pictures of all of the amazing quilts everyone brought to share.  Next year we will be more organized with the hanging of the quilts.

These last two pictures were the raffle quilt.  I forgot to take a straight picture of it, so you have to see us in the background.  I am open to suggestions about whether hanging the quilts worked better or igf we want to schedule a show n tell time on Friday for the quilts.
What do you think?

TOGA machines

I want to share some of the vintage machines that were at the TOGA!

A TOGA originated with Treadleon.net when fellow hand crank and treadle sewing machine users wanted to get together and share their machines and learn more about them.  It is called a Treadle On Gathering Academy because we gather together and learn a lot of stuff.  It is a lot of fun!  We will be having another Missouri TOGA next year.  I will try to schedule it for the weekend after Father's Day again in 2019.  This seems to work out pretty good for me since I am a teacher and am off work for the summer.

Missouri TOGA

We had our very first Missouri TOGA!  I think it was success and had a lot of fun.  This was my first time to be the one to put it on and I realize that did not leave me much time for sewing and enjoying the classes, but that is okay because I still learned a lot and had a blast!  I made a lot of new friends and confirmed what a great little town I live in.  Everybody was flabbergasted with how friendly a town I live in (Ava, MO) and what a great quilt shop and Farmer's we have.
We had a lot of demos and mini classes and spur of the moments lessons.

The girls kept Susie's hand crank busy.

I taught an impromptu quilting class to the girls.

I taught how to use the ruffle foot and the girls wanted to try!

We had a pre-TOGA field trip to Sweet Nellie's in Mansfield, MO and the Laura Ingall's Wilder museum.  I need to start planning next year's field trip!

Susie's cute watermelon purse that was made out of a gourd!

We finished the day with a raffle/auction!

I think that is enough pictures for today.  I will share the quilts and machines tomorrow!
