Spring Sonnet

"Spring"

Gone is the freezing cold,
Winter has lost it's icy hold.
The sun has sprung forth to stay,
And nature will come out to play.

The insects are starting to toil,
Worms tunneling through the soil.
Nature's workers are the ants and bees,
Lots of insects for us to see.

Daffodils pushing through the dirt,
Flowers of every kind and sort,
Reaching, grabbing the sunshine,
Budding grass and trees won't be left behind.

This beauty God has created,
To keep our soul captivated.
The robins and bluebirds come out to fly,
And our senses soar on high!

A New Year Poem

A New Year Poem

A new year has begun
Time to reflect,
On all that we have done.

Did we work for the Lord,
Serving Him,
With more than we could afford?

Determine in the new year,
To give Him our best,
Showing that we care.

The Bible is our Sword,
We need to sharpen,
To know our Lord.

Make this your goal,
Every day of this year,
Give Him your whole soul.

Quilt Poem

Every post needs a picture!

Making A Quilt

Pieces of fabric,
All sewn together,
It is a little magic,
As you sew the thread gather.

Color upon color,
Designs mixed and matched,
Whether two pieces or four,
Soon a quilt is hatched.

Several blocks are sewn,
Whether a pattern or scrappy,
This is how a quilt’s grown.
Quilting makes me happy!

Soon you will have a top,
Now it may need a border,
Something that will pop,

Which is why I’m a fabric hoarder!

Sandwich the top with the back,
Which means you need to baste,
Spray it, pin it, or tack,
There is no time to waste.

Quilting is another process,
Free motion or straight line,
Don’t rush, or you’ll have a mess,
It’s gonna turn out just fine!

We’re not done yet,
We still need to bind,
All the fabric has now met,
You’ve created a one of a kind!

Whether it is a gift,
Or for your home,
You crafted it bit by bit,
Just look at what you’ve sewn!

Have you ever had a poem that just had to be written?  This was one of those times.  I know it is kind of corny, but it was fun to write.  I made a document with quilt pictures and typed my poem on it so I can print it off and hang it up in my sewing room.  I could not figure out how to put it on my blog though.  I hope you enjoyed it!

Cats on Quilts

Welcome to the Pets on Quilts Show from Lily Pad Quilting!  I decided to express what I go through during the making of a quilt when a person has cats and wrote a corny poem illustrated with my cats!  I am entering this photo in the cats on quilts category.
Custard and Oreo on a log cabin quilt my MIL made
Seriously, how do you pick just one photo when you have such cute babies?
Oreo

Piecing a quilt,
A labor of love,
Stopping to move a ball of fuzz.
Now I'm full of guilt.
Custard on my scrappy trip around the world blocks

Ready to FMQ,
Again, here's the cat,
I gently say, "scat!"
What am I gonna do?

Tiger and Cupcake on a great granny square quilt
Stop, let her sleep,
The camera I grab
Snapping away, she looks fab!
Out of her, not a peep!
Pippi on a nine patch quilt
Now it's time to smile,
The quilt is done,
The race has been won!
But my cat is full of guile!
Tiger on a rail fence quilt
Trying to take a picture,
Don't see a cat anywhere,
Taking the shot with care,
There are the cats out of nowhere!
Custard, Cupcake and Oreo fighting
It's a well known fact:
Cats on quilts,
Quilts on cats,
Where there is a quilt, there is a cat!
Oreo in the wagon on my strings quilt, Cupcake's behind under the quilt, and Pippi sleeping on the log cabin quilt.
Oreo, Custard and Cupcake.  Siblings on the nine patch quilt.
I hope you enjoyed my corny poem!  Don't forget to hop over to the show and see some more great blogs with pets on quilts!
If you are wondering, yes, I have eight cats but did not want to put more pictures then I already have on here!

'Twas the Night Jesus Came

‘Twas the Night Jesus Came
‘Twas the night Jesus came and all through the house
Not a person was praying, not one in the house.
The Bibles were left on the shelf without care,
For no one thought that Jesus would come there.
The children were dressing to crawl into bed,
Not once ever kneeling or bowing a head.
And mom in her rocker with baby in her lap
Was watching the Late Show while I took a nap.
When out of the east there rose such a clatter,
I sprang to my feet to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash
Tore open the shutters and lifted the sash!
When what to my wondering eyes should appear
But angels proclaiming that Jesus was here!
The light of His face made me cover my head–
It was Jesus returning, just as He said.
And though I possessed worldly wisdom and wealth,
I cried when I saw Him in spite of myself.
In the Book of Life which He held in His hand
Was written the name of every saved man.
He spoke not a word as He searched for my name;
When He said, “It’s not here” my head hung in shame.
The people whose names had been written with love
He gathered to take to His Father above.
With those who were ready He rose without a sound
While all the rest were left standing around.
I fell to my knees, but it was too late;
I had waited too long and thus sealed my fate.
I stood and I cried as they rose out of sight;
Oh, if only I’d known that this was the night.
In the words of this poem the meaning is clear;
The coming of Jesus is now drawing near.
There’s only one life and when comes the last call
We’ll find that the Bible was true after all. –

I know it is late, but the message is always true!  I borrowed this poem from a blog I follow, Michelle at  Life With Lou .
I pray you had a great Christmas.  My step mom gave us a Petit Jean Ham and my mom gave us slippers, mine are totally cute and warm!
Be sure to enjoy a warm cup of hot chocolate on these cold nights!

A Quilter's Hands

I'm glad I gave myself a manicure on Sunday!

We had another quilt along on Wednesday.  I was asked for some closeups of our stitching  and we had Siouxsie at the last quilt along and she is our resident professional photographer!  She taught me how to take closeups and took several pictures with my camera!  After looking at the pictures, I wrote a poem about a quilter's hands.
Miss Debra has been quilting for a very long time.
Her stitches are perfect!

She has trouble seeing and these are here tools to see!  A thread guide and a magnifying glass.

A Quilter’s Hands

What makes a quilter’s hands?
Are they a certain age?
Young, old, from a certain land?

A hand that sews?
A hand that works?
A hand that’s seen sorrow and woes?

A hand that is barren?
A hand that multiplies.
A hand that is caring?

God gave us our hands,
To serve Him,
In every land.

To nurture and care
To toil and serve.
As we tarry here.

God gave us our quilter’s hands,
To sew together our lives,
With fabric, tears and laughter,
Serving Him the best we can.

By Missy Shay
Abideth is seven and she wanted to sew a few stitches!
Abideth also worked on her mom's cross stitch!

Here are some closeups of the stitching.

These are mine and very crooked, but a lot better than when I started!

I try to stitch in the ditch so that no one can see my crooked stitches!

Joeann's stitches are perfect!

Siouxsie's stitches are very uniform, which is good!

We even got some pictures of stitching from the underside of the quilt!

Verity "helped" Siouxsie with her tangle!

Of course the best thing about the quilt alongs is the fellowship!

I really recommend getting together with friends to quilt, it is what threads our lives together!

Have a great day!
