Quilt Market Question

Since we have moved to MO we are only about four hours from Paducah, KY.  My husband said we can go to Quilt Market this year!  I have a question though.  From blogs I have read it sounds like it is on for vendors and people who are "in the business".  Is this correct or is it for anyone?  Is it at the museum?  Is it just a big quilt show?  How much does it cost to get in?  Any information would be appreciated!
Thanks!
Missy!

Hey Missy! From what I understand, yes you do have to be a vendor or an invitee to attend Quilt Market. I think Quilt Market precedes the actual AQS Quilt Show. I bet you could find out more by googling. They are two separate things, but usually run one right after the other. It is supposed to be a fabulous time to go to the show. All of Paducah rolls out the red carpet!

Quilt Market is a "Trade Show" for those in the business, so you really need a wholesale license. In all honesty, I'd recommend you step back and look at your objectives to attend such a trade show vs a Quilt Show that is open to the public. I hope you can attend the famous Paducah Quilt Show and share insights. I've never been able to attend, but it is on my bucket list. And you are so close that seems like a great show to attend and enjoy, as well as maybe take a class or two. And I think you'd have way more fun at such a show than attending Market.

Hi Missy, the first 2 comments are correct. Market vs Show being the defining factor.
That being said, I was fortunate to attend the Paducah Quilt Show and can I say amazing! It was so much fun and the deals were huge. Many books at $5.00 a book, of course many of the nationally known quilters now have studios and stores in the vacinity. If you have a chance, you won't regret it. The only concern is to make sure you have reservations if you plan to spend the night. Lodging is hard to come by when done last minute. I've heard they host raffles for the hotels and motels so people can get a room. When I went, 5 friends and I reserved a cabin between the lakes a year in advance. But it is totally worth it and I do it again in a heartbeat.

I don't know anything about it, and don't even know when the shows are. But, I'm visiting my daughter in a couple of weeks, and she lives 2 hours from Paducah. she is going to take me, just so I can see what's there on a regular day. I'm so excited. ;)

Missy, I am taking a bus trip to the Quilt show in Paducah in April from Buffalo. It may be my first and only bus trip depending on long I can sit. If you go to the Show, I would love to meet you! I am sure it is worth it, at least that is what I keep telling myself.

I've never been to Paducah, but lots of my ladies have. From their comments the rooms do need to be booked well in advance and you can expect to pay top dollar, and then some, for them. There are great deals to be had on books and fabric, but there are a lot of folks there so if you're not a "crowd" person you might not enjoy it. Best days to go I'm told are Wednesday and Thursday. The weekends are more crowded and getting to see the quilts is almost always a challenge. As I understand it, there are quilts hung in several areas of the town so be sure to wear comfortable clothes and shoes. You can visit the Quilt Museum any time, but I think it's extra decked out for the AQS show. Go to www.americanquilter.com for more information about all of their shows.

You mentioned Quilt Market and may have just been confused, but market happens in Houston in the fall. It's only for shopowners and the retail trade folks. There is a show after market that anyone can attend but most of the vendors, if not all, leave before the actual quilt show. There's also a quilt market in the spring but the location of this market changes each year. You can learn more about that at www.quilts.com. Which ever place you decide to go, have fun!

Have you been to Missouri Quilt Star in Hamilton, MO? It's north, not too far from Kansas City. I wish I knew it was there when my grandmother was alive, we were right by it and passed it up. I've spoken to people that have gone there and they loved it. https://www.missouriquiltco.com/content/visit-the-missouri-star-quilt-company
