Butterflies and Ice!

 We've had snow all week but Saturday morning we woke up to everything being covered in solid ice!  I did not touch up these photos, everything really is white, including the sky!

 I have been busy making butterflies from Lori Holt's book Quilty Fun.

 Last year for the Sew Sweet Bee I asked for baskets when it was my turn, I am going to ask for more baskets this year because I want to make one more king size quilt for my bed.  I am going to use the butterflies as a border around the baskets.

 I had a lot of half square triangles left over from this month's block and I made them into five inch pinwheels.  These are going to be used as a second border on that quilt too!

 So far I have 28 butterflies and eight pinwheels made.  I have a lot more to go for a king size quilt!

I've brought a little spring into my house!

New Basket Block!

 I got another block from the Sew Sweet Bee!  I am loving the fabric everyone used!  This one came from Nanette at Freda's Hive.  She makes the cutest things on her blog!  She also sent me a little treat bag with some 2 1/2 inch blocks and strips and other fun stuff!

I could not help but take a picture of Custard, she looked like she was posing while sitting there!

Have you ever made a basket quilt?  This will be my first!

More Baskets and a reminder

Hello everyone!  I'm sorry I have been so quiet on here, but I started a new job.  Last week I got hired as a part time reading teacher at a local Christian school here.  I am super excited!  That means I am super busy trying to get ready for school to start next week!

A week ago I got several more basket blocks from the Sew Sweet Bee.

These two pink ones came from Pam Kitty Morning.  She said that she did not like the first one, so she made a second one.  I think both look great and will use both of them.

 This pink one came from Amy at a Quilting Sheep and she also sent me a sweet charm pack!

 This last yellow one came from Heather at Vintage Grey and she sent me a sweet fat quarter!

I love how all of the blocks I have been sent have had practically the same fabric on the baskets!  I am loving them!

School starts next week so I am going to be super busy getting my classroom ready.

Baskets!

 Donna, from Donna's Lavender Nest, sent me her block and I got it today.

 She said she messed up on the first one but sent it in case I want to use it for a pillow, but I think it looks great and will probably put it in the quilt!
She also sent me a couple of pretty fat quarters!  I think that I am going to make my first pansy block with that pink!

 With the two baskets Donna sent me today, I have one green and three aqua baskets.  I'm hanging them on a line I had my husband string in my room to hang blocks from.  They are too pretty to pack away until I get all of my blocks!  I need some pink blocks and yellow blocks!

New Basket!

I got another block yesterday!  This one came from Clara from Clover and Violet .  She also sent me a charm pack!

 I now have an aqua basket and a green basket with a pink handle!

I won some turtle fabric from Kathy a Kathy's Quilts.  She has a Slow Sunday Stitching linky party for hand stitching and a Treadling Tuesday where she shows what she is working on with her treadle.  Be sure to check out her blog!

I am really enjoying checking my mail box!  I am hanging my baskets above my window in my sewing room so that I can enjoy them until I get all of my blocks!  I am waiting to make my baskets until I see what colors I get in case I need a certain color to balance it out.

Mail Call!

I got home from vacation yesterday and had packages in the mail!
I got my first Bee block from Renee at Sewn With Grace.  I have been following her blog for years and love the quilts she makes!  I love the basket block she made for me!  She also sent me a charm pack!

 I have also joined a swap.  Kathy from Made with Love and Ladybugs sent me a hot pad!  This will be great for putting hot casserole dishes on my table!  I love the aqua and red colors.

I bought some cute fabric at a flea market in GA.  I paid $3 for this cute cat fabric and text print!

 On July Fourth we went to the National Quilt Museum in Paducah, KY.  You are not allowed to take pictures inside the museum.  I bought a really cute mouse pad that has a wedding ring quilt and cats on it!
Before we traveled on we went stopped at Hancock of Paducah.  I bought this great batik flowered material off the clearance table.  Isn't it gorgeous?

 Look at this penguin material I found!  I bought a yard of the pink and green and half a yard of the purple.  I love this material.

 I also got The Angler 2 ruler, I am so excited about this!

I am going to be keeping my eye open for more of that penguin batik material in different colors.  I can't wait to make a quilt out of batiks!

Sew Sweet Bee - My turn!

July is my turn to have quilt blocks made for me for the Sew Sweet Bee!  I am super excited and have obsessed about it all year!  LOL

We are making 12 1/2 in. unfinished blocks.  I picked the basket block for my blocks.  I want the handles to be rick rack because I love rick rack!

Donna from Donna's Lavender Nest was sweet enough to make the block and tutorial for me.  She is sending me the block above.  Go HERE for the tutorial.
I was looking through my favorite fabric and I want to use it in this quilt.  The big piece of pink will probably be my border if I don't change my mind after I get all of my blocks.  It's hard to tell the colors from the picture.

I love the aqua, light pink, yellow and light green.  It is hard to tell some of the colors from the picture.
When I made Heather's block from here, I loved the combination.

Strawberries, cherries, little roses and flowers, polka dots, ginghams and pretty plaids.  Just think summer and spring!  The background, I would love white on white!

I am looking forward to this quilt. I'll have 10 baskets from the bee, I'll make two more baskets.and for  in between the baskets I am going to make 12 flowers.  So far I have found four patterns for flowers I can maybe use.  All the blocks are 12 inches finished.

I cannot tell you how excited I am about my quilt!  I have been obsessing about it all year!  I can't wait to get all of my different blocks, I have to wait to make my two until I see what colors everyone else is using.
