Vintage Hats

We had our Valentine's Day banquet at church last night, Saturday night.  I figured it would be the perfect place to wear a vintage hat and matching purse.

 I borrowed the hat from my hair dresser.  She has a room full of vintage stuff, she says it is a thrift store, but most of the things aren't for sale.  LOL

 While I was waiting at the hair dresser, I was playing with her hats.  She wasn't selling them, but said I could borrow one anytime I wanted.  Please excuse my hair, like I said it was right before my appointment.  The one below was like an Egyptian style.

 My facial expressions are goofy!

 She even has the old fashioned hair dryers!  LOL

I gave myself a manicure for Valentine's Day.

I had a party at my Homemaker's Group on Thursday and baked a strawberry cake.  

 For the banquet I made a sherbet punch and made the hearts out of frozen Hawaiian punch.

I bought a box of stuff at an auction and this sweet quilted wall hanging was in there!  I paid two dollars for the box because it had this wall hanging and a really cute purse in it!

I put it on a side table with this Nativity I showed you last week.

Ready for Christmas!

We went to Branson yesterday and toured the Titanic museum.  It was pretty fun, but I love history.

We bought new pajamas for Christmas

and are going to spend the whole day in our pj's watching our favorite classics!  My husband said we also have to watch "A Christmas Carol".

The Christian school I work at was in our small town Christmas parade.  The theme was Christmas Around the World and was so much fun!

I was Scotland.

We already opened our presents ad we gave the cats a roll of toilet paper.  It was hard to get a good picture because they are used to having to sneak their tp terror!

Oreo was kicking that thing as hard as he could!

Christmas

  

 

Twas the night before Christmas,

And the quilts were not made,

The threads were all tangled, the cookies delayed.

The stockings weren't hung, the pantry was bare,

The poor weary Quilter, was tearing her hair.

Stacks of fat quarters, tipped over in streams,

Visions of Log Cabins had turned into dreams.

 When what to her wondering eyes should appear,

But a bus full of quilters with all of their gear.

They went straight to work with just a few mutters,

Sorting and stitching and brandishing cutters.

The patterns emerged from all of the clutter,

Like magic the fabrics arranged in a flutter.

Log Cabins, Lone Stars, Flying Geese and Bear Tracks,

Each quilt was a beauty---even the backs!

 Her house how it twinkled, her quilts how they glowed,

The cookies were baking, the stockings were sewed.

Their work was all done, so they folded their frames,

And packed up their needles, without giving their names.

They boarded the bus and checked the next address,

More quilts to be made, another quilter in distrss.

 She heard one voice echo, as they drove out of sight...

Since I do not put up a Christmas tree, we hang garland all over the place and hang ornaments from it.

I just wanted to share some of my Christmas decorations with you!

a semi finish!

 I bought some vintage ornaments Saturday.  The long blue one, tiny red and green one, and the decorated one were all 25 cents!  The red and blues with the gold trim were $1 each!  I was so happy to find these ornaments!

I put them in a bowl with some green ornaments I had and set them on top of the almost finished table runner.

I decided to use two fabrics and make pinwheels.  I los the "scenes" but like the way it turned out.

I've been filling in for sick teachers at school, so who knows when I will have time to baste and bind it!  One more week before Christmas break!

 Oreo wanted to help me.  There was a loose piece of material and he decided to grab it and carry it around.  He was having trouble walking with it between his legs, wish I could have gotten a back shot!

 Of course his sister wanted to help!

 Then he decided to try to eat it , so I took it away and cut that piece off!

New project

 This is the cute fabric I bought for my apron, but changed my mind and now want to make it into a table runner.

There are just a few snags.  To get the "scene", the block needs to be about 9 1/2 inches as you can see below.

 Even the six inches (below) would be just a snowman.  I also need something super quick because I do not have very much time to work on it.

 I can do one of two things.  Either just cut it long and put the gingerbread men (brown fabric) around it as a border, or I can make different colored sashing to go around the nine and a half inch blocks.  What do you think?

 I was also thinking I could make it reversible and have a winter themed table runner for January by making pinwheels with the blue fabric.

I have never made a table runner before.  My table is six feet by three feet.  Do I make it all in the center (about four feet)  to fit plates all around it, or do I make it six feet long?  I was thinking the center could be between 12-13 inches.

Any suggestions would be welcome, I would like them made by Sunday if I could!  Yeah right!
This is my only goal for this month!

Cross Stitch Nativity

I wanted to share this sweet Nativity my mom made for me years ago.  I love it.  I picked the manger up at a yard sale for like 50 cents at the same time.

My mom does cross stitching and I do quilting!  I have some blocks that she cross stitched for me years ago that I need to quilt.  They need to be washed, any suggestions on how to do that?

I pray you all have a blessed Christmas!

I have been wanting to start a Gingerbread village for years and found this church a couple of weeks ago, brand new at a thrift store, for $5!  The penguin was 50 cents.

I also found my first building for a Christmas village, a church, last week at another thrift store for $1.25!  My friend Cara and I did ceramics last week and of course I did a penguin, I have him caroling in front of the of the church.

I was only able to find a couple of my Christmas decorations in the storage room (we left a lot of stuff packed while we are looking for a home to buy).  I also put my small Nativity scene in front of the church.

Now if I could just keep Squeeky off the book shelf!

The cats have been bad, this morning my husband found the lights over the window chewed through!  Which means they do not work anymore!  Do you see the piece of garland Oreo is playing with that he chewed off the end?  Which is why I do not have a tree!

But of course Christmas is not about decorations and gifts, it is about our Lord's birthday!

I do enjoy my Christmas socks though and really liked this picture someone shared on Facebook!

Did you know the Grinch uses a treadle to make his Santa suit?  Now, I do not do Santa, but I like his picture.  My husband said this is what I look like when I get busy sewing on my treadle.  LOL!  He says I need to train my cats to push the pedal for me!
