Party Planning

I have missed blogging and sewing. I have been super busy.

I had a Lula Roe party last week. I told myself that I was preparing too much food and I am still eating the leftovers. It is better to have a couple of wow foods, than a lot of food that will not get eaten, for a small party. I had five ladies and four preteens at my house.

I made savory Parmesan thumbprint cookies. stuffed jalapenos, pumpkin spice mini bundt cakes with this recipe. I also made some truffle brownie cups. Doritos and olives. I would have been fine with one dessert, and baking one appetizer, with the Doritos and olives. I would have saved myself a lot of time and stress.

These were my pumpkins, I put two cakes together. It would have been easier to just put one mini bundt cake on each plate, because that was too much cake for one person and they were shy about cutting the cakes for a piece. Here is the glaze I used. I always sprinkle these cakes with cinnamon on top, anyone can decorate these cakes.

I love my new mini fluted pan. I sell Pampered Chef and was able to earn it free. My husband is urging me to get a second one, just like you would have two cupcake pans. These pans hold half a cake mix each. Let me know if you want one!

I also had a small version of a hot chocolate bar. I didn't do anything "cute" with it, but I think it tasted good!

The girls begged me to let the cats out of the basement so they could play with them. Pippi made herself comfortable here, after we shooed her out of the tub of leggings. Silly girl.

I love having parties. The best part was I got a Carly and a pair of leggings for free!
Excuse the picture, I was so busy cooking too much food that I didn't have time to do my hair or put on makeup. LOL

Vintage Tablecloths

In homemaking class we learned how to properly set a table.

I let her use my good China to set the table.

We had our big test on Ancient Greece in History. We wore togas and had Greek food, Dolmas, Greek olives, and Feta cheese.

We used my old book on etiquette written by Emily Post.

I let my student choose which tablecloth she wanted to use. Out of all of my new and old tablecloths, she picked my vintage ones!

I love this vintage tablecloth I got at a yard sale. I love the hand embroidered yellow daisies. Someone spent a lot of time on this tablecloth.

I also taught her how to layer tablecloths for another look. This red tablecloth, I picked up at a yard sale, is too small for my table. We wanted to use it, so we laid it diagonally on top of the white one. Do you see Tiger sitting on the chair?

If it wasn't for my cats, who are sneaky when we aren't looking, I would leave a tablecloth on my table at all times.

Spring Tea

I had a Spring Tea on Saturday, it was a lot of fun! I invited a few ladies to come over and we wore our Spring dresses and hats. Of course I had to wear one of my vintage hostess aprons!

My friend Clarissa gave me the carnations and my friend Carol gave me the lacey mat under them! That was so sweet!

I used my mug rugs under the tea cups and gave one to each of my friends who came.

For dessert I made Cherry meringue dessert, I got the recipe from Taste of Home years ago and made individual desserts with the meringue. (recipe here) I only had four green napkins so my napkin was yellow. :)

I loved the bacon wrapped asparagus! (recipe here)

There were five of us. Clarissa said next time to ask people to help with the food, that would make it easier and cheaper! LOL

This was my food table.

I did not really like the cucumber sandwiches but did like the pineapple, pecan cream cheese sandwiches, they just needed some more pecans. 4 oz cream cheese, a drained small can of crushed pineapple and I would put at least 1/2 cup to 1 cup of chopped pecans. I also made balsamic strawberries with whipped cream. Yum! (recipe here)

I have decided to have a tea every Spring and Fall. I think the one in the fall might be a whimsical Mad Hatter party.

Tea Party

We had a baby shower for two ladies at our church on Saturday. We decided to have a tea party. I was going to make a life size tea pot. The only problem was that instead of using a pound cake for the ball pan I used a yellow cake recipe and it fell apart. I just took one half of the ball pan and laid it down on the platter to make the tea pot.

I made the handle and tea spout out of a cookie dough.

I used an 18 star tip to cover the whole tea pot, and for the cap and saucer I used part of the cake top that I had trimmed off, the saucer I used a tip 32, and then put fondant flowers on it and drew scrolls.
It's not what I was wanting, but at least it did not look like this:

I took that to serve to everybody also.
This is a lot better!

It's finished!

We finished the quilt! I was not able to get the whole quilt in the picture, it was too tall for the clothesline!
Here is the scrappy back:

We all pitched in to buy some birdhouse material, but since it was expensive we just used scraps to finish it out. I really liked how the back turned out. I have to admit I didn't like the idea of the muslin binding, but several of the ladies picked that, and after putting it on I really liked it. I was up until midnight on Wednesday working on the quilt so we could have it on Thursday for the party. On Thursday I had to wash and dry the quilt and bake and decorate the birthday cake!
We threw a surprise party on Thursday night during bible study for Marie to give her the quilt.

Julia made her a special pin to wear and one of the little girls loaned her a tiara for the night and several of the children gave her cards and flowers.

She cried all night long during the party. She was very surprised when she opened the present and found a quilt.

Then of course we had to eat! Here are some miscellaneous pictures.

My husband is glad the quilt is done, now I can get some housework done! LOL

I can also scratch one more UFO off my list, I did finish it Feb. 29 but did not get this post written for two days! I have a lot of sewing projects I want to get done this month, sadly I won't be able to start another quilt until next month, too much to do!
