Grandmother's Flower Garden Quilt

I just realized that I have not published any pictures of the quilt my sister got from our grandmother.  She got the grandmother's flower garden with the traditional green flower path.

 I just love this quilt too!  My sister had it stuck in the closet when I came to visit because she was afraid it would get messed up.  I told her she needed to display it!  Quilts are meant to be seen or used!

I took some other pictures when we were at the hotel in Carlsbad Caverns, so excuse the ugly Motel 6 comforter you see under some of the pictures.

 I love polka dot material, and this brown is very pretty.  I've noticed my grandmother used a lot of brown in her quilts.

 She hand quilted and hand pieced the entire quilt!

 She had solid centers and a print for the middle petals and the traditional yellow for the centers.

 Aren't those huge green dots so retro?  Back then they were very popular though!

Unfortunately, this one has a burn mark also, just like my circle upon circle quilt does.

My husband got me a new quilting book for Christmas, Quilts from Grandmother's Flower Gsrden.

It has a lot of good information in it and I can't wait to make something from it!
I had told ya'll Monday that I was going to make a quilt for uncle.  I cut all the pieces out yesterday.  My mom called me this morning to let me know my uncle passed away last night.  I had planned to make his quilt last year.  If you are planning on making a quilt for someone, be sure to get it made, you might not have another day to finish it.

Hexie Help needed!

I couldn't find a place to spread out my hexies to take a picture, so I pinned them on the wall in my sewing room er, dining room.  I thought I had sewn them in a straight line, but that does not look very straight to me.  My question is this, I thought I was going to be able to make a straight line for each row, but after looking at this and other Grandmother flower garden quilts, I don't think that is going to happen.  Should I just sew the other flowers on the best I can (I put the garden trail on every other flower already) and pretend like it is supposed to be wonky?  I really need a good tutorial for this step of the process because I have no idea what I am doing.
Sorry about the post it notes still pinned on the flowers, but I did n't want to forget which row this one is.

Design Wall Monday

I did not get as much sewing done this weekend as I wanted to.  This is what my finished block will look like.  I promise I will post tutorials on how I did everything, but later, I am too tired this morning.  LOL  My husband wanted some bread yesterday.  So I made the bread and set it out to rise before we left for church. I started the second rising after we got home from church, to rise for 1 1/2 hrs.  I asked my husband to turn the oven on at 6:30 to preheat for a few minutes before baking the bread.  I was so busy making yo yo's and sewing them on that I forgot the bread!  The bread did not get baked until 9!  Then of course my husband always has to have a piece after it comes out of the oven.  It was 11 before we got to bread,I mean bed,  and 5:30 comes very early!
Before I ever went to church yesterday morning, I also had to frost a birthday cake.

My hands were shaking, so it does not look great.  It was a gluten free cake, I promise to share the recipe.
Out of ten Dresden plate blocks, 7 got appliqued, 6 yo yo's made and sewn on, and two buttons sewn on.  For more information on these plates go here.

Here is an update on my hexagon quilt also.  I have one more block to sew the border on.  Then I can start attaching the flowers together and filling in the rest of the "garden path" around the "flowers".  I am so afraid that I am going to attach the flowers crooked, since I have no idea what I am doing!  LOL I have not really worked much on the hexies lately, although I am sure I will get a lot done on the 6 hour bus trip to my mom's in October. Please excuse the yellow post it notes, it tells me what order to attach the flowers.  I'll work more on this quilt once I finish my Dresden plates.

I also finished a dress(two weeks ago) for a friend.  I forgot to take a picture of her, but did take one while she was in choir.

My goal today is to finish the plates, write blog posts, clean my house and rest.  I have a sore throat and I hope I am not coming down with a cold.  It's raining, so I won't be able to go walking.
