Log Cabin Quilt

I am so happy to have finished my scrappy log cabin.  This was my first log cabin quilt, but it won't be my last!  My friend Dora Scheer from Dora Quilts asked me if she could quilt it for me, of course my answer was yes!  She did a great job and quilted it with gold thread that looks wonderful!

You can really see it on my pieced back.  I just used a lot of my odd pieces of green fabric on the back.

All I had to do when I got it back was bind it!  She sent back the pieces she cut off from the backing of the quilt, so I cut it into 2 1/2 inch strips to make a scrappy binding.

I found these clips in my scrap booking stuff which worked great alongside my wonder clips.

I am going to give this quilt to my mom's best friend who I call Aunt Ginny.
I took pictures of the quilt in my front yard, I thought all the greens were a great background for my scrappy greens.
After seeing the finished quilt, I almost want to keep the quilt myself!

Update on my health:
I am feeling better each day, I still have a few pains and my belly button still hurts.  I get frustrated having to stop so often when I am trying to get my quilting done, but I know that it is just part of my healing process.

Have a great week ya'll!

Log Cabin Quilt Top finished!

I finished my log cabin quilt top!  My bloggy friend, Dora, asked if she could quilt it for me.  She does wonderful work on her treadle, you can check out her blog here:  She asked for six inch borders to do feathers, I was happy to oblige!

I am really happy with how it turned out!

Funny Cat Pictures!

I had my blocks laid out and Oreo "attacked" them!
Here I had them in a pile and Cupcake just flipped them like pages in a book.  LOL
Here I had the rows lined up ready to sew together when Custard thought it would be fun to "attack" she stopped her destruction as soon as she saw I had the camera trained on her!  LOL
These three sisters and brother are such mischief makers!
We have another snow day, so tonight I am going to piece together a back for the quilt and hopefully it will be ready to mail soon!  Tomorrow I hope to get more quilting done on om Scrappy trip around the world quilt and to get blocks cut out to sew in the evenings after work.

Have a great day!

Finished Blocks!

I finished my last nine blocks!

I made a total of 36 blocks at 10 1/2 inches each, finishing at 10 inches each.  My husband thought it would be funny to put Pippi in her basket on the quilt while I was trying to take a picture.  LOL
I need some suggestions of a border.  I was thinking cream border to make the green "diamonds" look like they are floating.  Should I do one or two borders?  A four inch cream followed by a 2 1/2 inch green maybe?  Then either a green or the gold binding?
What do you think of a square lap quilt or should I add another row of six but then that would mess up my pattern.  Sorry I don't have a straight picture of the quilt minus cats.  LOL

Those blocks sewed up very fast!

Log Cabin Blocks and a Tip

I've been working on my scrappy log cabin quilt along blocks.  I finished 11 this past week to bring up my total to 26.  Oreo is a sweety and posed perfectly for me.
This is my first time making log cabin blocks, I'm sure most of you already know this tip.  At first I was worried about getting the pattern messed up, until I realized the new strip was always sewn by the short strip.  Do you see them on the bottom of both these blocks?
I need to remember to let ya'll know the measurements I am using on these blocks.

My blocks are 10 1/2 inches, making the finished blocks 10 inches.  I was thinking of making 36 blocks, making 6 across and 6 down.  making my quilt 60 inches by 60 inches.  Is that a good size for a quilt?  I was also thinking of adding like a 5 inch border making the quilt 64 1/2 inches.  Do I need more blocks, or is that a good size?

Thanks!

Quilty math - yuck!

I have found that I get more quilting done when I set a hand crank up in the living room.  It allows me to sit down for ten or 15 minutes to sew while hanging out with my husband.  I set up my ironing board made from a tv tray on one side and another tv tray on the other side to hold my strips.  It's super warm when the fireplace is going in the evenings.
I ran out of 7 1/2 inch neutral strips while I was sewing, which means I have three more finished blocks and several 6 1/6 blocks that need more strips to make 10 1/2 inch blocks.

Cupcake wanting attention while I'm taking pictures.
That brings me to ten finished blocks out of 36.
Custard wanted her picture taken.

That means I had to count how many strips I had cut of each size and color then figure out how many of each I still needed keeping in mind the half finished blocks.

At least that part is done and ready for quilting.
Our last dress up day at school was yesterday, today is just wearing school colors.
I was a butterfly princess, LOL

I don't know why I didn't wear my hair up on the sides to show off the swirlies I drew on my eyes.  LOL
All day the kids kept asking me if I knew there was glitter in my hair and on my face.  LOL
Not to mention I kept bonking the kids with my wings.  LOL

It was a lot of fun!  I love dress up days!

Remember, God never said we could not have fun as long as we follow the Bible, there is lots of fun things to do!  Do something to make yourself smile today!

Log Cabin Blocks

I have joined the log cabin quilt along on Instagram.  I've never made one before!
I have made seven blocks so far.  I am half way done with eight more.
It was really funny because I had been sewing these in the living room.  My husband walked in the next day when I was taking this picture and asked me where these blocks came from, even though he had watched me make them!  LOL
Today at school was Wacky Wednesday.  I had fun dressing up for it!

I love dress days, do you like to dress up for things?
