Feline Friday

I went to Texas to see my family and I've only had one day to do any sewing since I've been home.  Pippi kept me company while I was cutting fabric.  She found a comfy spot.

 I walked off while I was cutting fabric and came back to this.  Muffin and Cupcake thought the cutting table under the windows was the perfect spot to sleep.

I tried to move Cupcake, she just rolled over and never woke up.  LOL

 I had to share this picture of Pippi with my Singer Redeye.

 My last night in TX, my mom, aunt, and I went to see the musical Texas in Palo Duro Canyon.

I'm hoping to finish a couple of quilt blocks today!

Quilting in Dallas

My husband had a work conference in Dallas last week, that is why I was so quiet around here!  He does not like for me to tell me people when we are not home for security reasons.  I HATE driving in Dallas, but I love to walk!  Since I only live an hour from Dallas, it really was not a big deal to me vacation wise.  So what is a girl to do staying in a ritzy hotel (paid for by his work) and 100° outside?  You take your hand crank sewing machine and quilt!  The light was not great, but it was so peaceful, no thinking "I should be cleaning or cooking, etc."!  Guilt free quilting!

I finished six of the sailboat blocks, only to realize that I did not cut enough 3 1/2 inch squares for the boat hulls!  So frustrating, I could have been finished with one of my monthly goals if I had!  I only had to finish the boat hulls and attach the top white strips, hard to see on the white comforter.

That makes seven out of twelve quilt blocks completely finished!  The other four just need the boat hulls attached, and one that still needs to be assembled.

Luckily I also brought the pinwheels, without counting I believe almost all of my half square triangles have been sewn together, they just needed to be ironed, dog ears snipped, and then sewn together as pinwheels.  Which I did a lot of in the hotel room.   I finished 16 more pinwheels, Bringing the count to 32 out of 80 finished!  These are the sashings.  I don't think the quilt will be finished before my step brother's baby comes., we'll see what happens!  If I had thought about it, I would have done a plain sashing instead of the pinwheels, then I'd already be done!

I decided that I really like this stool to sit on while sewing!  After I move to MO I am going to start looking for one.  See those water bottles in the room for the guests?  They cost $4 each!  Needless to say, they stayed there!

In the mornings I walked around the downtown district of Dallas, I just made sure I was back in the hotel before noon so I would not get too hot.

 I had already seen things like the Holocaust Museum, The Sixth Floor museum (where JFK was shot), and the Dallas Aquarium on previous visits.   Such an assortment of architecture in downtown Dallas!

There was also a nice full size cattle drive etched in stone, right next to a cemetery from the 1860's.

I bought that dress on clearance from Wal-mart, I cut five inches off it before I hemmed it!  I think maybe I should have left and extra inch though?

This week I need to finish cutting out the pieces needed to finish those sailboat blocks.  I finished snipping my rag quilt, I'll take it to the laundry mat on Saturday to wash it and I'll share the finished pictures then.  I need to play with my new industrial treadles and decide which one does better FMQ so I'll know which one to keep!

Feline Friday

Happy Friday everyone!  I had to share the above picture of Pippi - she's a hoot!
The picture below is my neice, Johnna-6, to the right my sister, Thresia - 42, and the bottom, me-39.  I just thought it was funny we all had on purple shoes!  I went to visit my family last week in Lubbock, TX.

 We all went to the corn maize, a big corn field with a maze cut in it - it was a blast.  Here's me and my mom.

 Gorgeous sunset!  It got pretty dark in that maze!

 This week I went to the Dallas World aquarium with the homeschooler's field trip.  They let me go even though I don't have kids, an extra pair of hands is always helpful with the little ones!  Of course my favorite exhibit was the penguins!

 I thought this sword fish was hilarious!  He looks mean!  There was a tunnel and the big fish were swimming above us!

 Here's another one, those are some big lips!

Grand Canyon

I wanted to share another part of my trip with you!  We also went to the Grand Canyon.  I had wanted to get there first thing in the morning, but miscalculated things.  When we stopped the night before in Seligma, AZ, I did not realize we were still 1 1/2 hours away.  After looking at all the Rte 66 shops(you can see that article here) we got a later start than we expected.  It was 11:30 by the time we got to Williams, AZ and we wanted to get to the canyon, we watched the IMAX movie of the Grand Canyon (it was really good except that the first five minutes has topless Indian girls)  They had this fun 3-d spot in the courtyard to take pictures.

It was after 1:00 by the time we got to the Canyon and it started storming as soon as we got there!

 It stopped raining just long enough for us to walk one of the trails.  As you can see, everything is very cloudy, but gorgeous!

 This is one of my favorite pictures of the storm rolling in.

 It had started raining again by the end of the trail.  I didn't realize until later that my hat was covering my eyes in all the pictures, the wind and rain kept blowing my hat off!

 We meant to drive out the other side of the canyon and get off at the different trails, but somehow missed the turn and ended back up on the road to Williams instead.  It's a good thing we did, since we had a flat tire.  It would have been a lot farther to the next town and I would not have wanted this to happen at the canyon.

 See the split in the tire?  It cost us over $200 to get a new one!

Maybe one year we can go back and spend a couple of days there instead of one afternoon.  I would love to go rafting the Colorado River through the canyon!
